BSUT is in touch with space

The cooperation of the educational institution «Belarusian State University of Transport» with the Southwestern State University began on 08.06.2022 with the signing of a cooperation agreement.

It received a new impetus to its development on September 21, 2023 during the visit of the delegation of Kursk University to BSUT. Vice-Rector for Youth Policy Emelyanov Ivan Pavlovich and Head of the Department of Scientific Research Altukhov Alexander Yurievich discussed with the leadership of BSUT the prospects of cooperation, got acquainted with the laboratory base of the university and invited our students to a unique event – radio communication with the cosmonauts of Roscosmos of the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS).

Undergraduates and students of the Faculty of Mechanics will remember September 21, 2023 forever!

It was on this day that a radio communication session with the cosmonauts of Roscosmos from the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) took place on the basis of the Gomel State Technical University named after P.O. Sukhoi.

The radio communication session took place thanks to representatives of the Research Institute of Radio-Electronic Systems of Southwestern State University, who, with the help of their equipment, carried out a high-level radio communication session with the commander of the Soyuz MS-22 crew, Hero of the Russian Federation Sergey Valeryevich Prokopyev.

The radio communication session lasted 10 minutes, but even in such a short period of time, students of two universities in Gomel managed to communicate with the commander of the Russian segment of the ISS and ask a number of questions. Students of the Mechanical Faculty of Radio Communication were lucky enough to ask a couple of questions:

• Dmitry Shkoroedov: «What is the duration of the cosmonaut's «working day»?»,
• Jan Polivach: «What effect does the electric field have on astronauts in zero gravity?».

«Today I had a unique opportunity to feel the importance of the cosmonauts' work. Our state provides an opportunity to explore what we all strive for – space. This is a very interesting and bright work, but at the same time dangerous and difficult. And today we talked with the cosmonauts in the audience, who strengthened confidence in the future of our science. I was also lucky enough to have a personal conversation with the commander of the ISS of the Russian segment. I asked a question and got a clear and confident answer. It was an unforgettable emotion for me! On behalf of the youth, I want to express my gratitude to all cosmonauts for their great contribution to science! «We, the students, had a unique opportunity to ask questions to the astronauts and hear a detailed professional answer! I was also lucky enough to turn to Sergei Prokopyev with the question: «What effect does the electric field have on astronauts in zero gravity? Reception!..» The communication process was mesmerizing, everyone present was straining to hear every word rushing from space! We learned a lot of interesting facts about the work of astronauts. At the end of the meeting, sincere gratitude was expressed to the organizers of the event! Representatives of Southwestern State University expressed their desire to further develop cooperation and popularize research activities! It was great! It was exciting and bright! Yes, that's how the students of the two universities of Gomel spent their evening. Bright applause for the cosmonauts, representatives of Roscosmos and the Research Institute of Radioelectronic Systems of Southwestern State University sounded throughout the meeting.
