The power of the Word! BSUT took part in the International Dialogue Club

On October 27, 2023, within the framework of educational and research cooperation between the Belarusian State University of Transport (BSUT) and the Orenburg Institute of Railways - a branch of Samara State University of Railways (OrIR – a branch of SamSUR), staff and students of BSUT took part in an online meeting of the International Student Research Dialogue Club «The Power of Word».

The purpose of the event is to form the skills of public speaking, the culture of speech of students, their ability to build a logical, competent, expressive speech.

The jury from our university included:

• Mikhail Stradomsky, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists, Researcher at the Scientific Research Laboratory «Transportation Process Management»;
• Natalia Adamovna Ryabtseva, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Philosophy, History and Political Science;
• Shapovalov Vadim Aleksandrovich, member of the Council of Young Scientists, assistant of the department «Locomotives».

Mikhail Stradomsky, Chairman of the Council of Young Scientists, delivered a welcoming speech to the participants of the Dialogue Club from BSUT:

– The Dialog Club has a very important goal – to develop the culture of speech among the participants and to form public speaking skills.

– Why is it important? – Mikhail Yurievich addressed the participants with a question. – Now you are students. But very soon you will come to your first workplace. You will have to communicate with a large team, with the leadership of various levels. A lot depends on your speech culture! No matter what outstanding knowledge you have, it will be difficult for you to move up the career ladder without competent and logical speech.

After a while, some of you will become leaders. Building communication will be even more difficult! Because you will have subordinates who need to correctly and consistently set tasks. Without these skills, the efficiency of the team and the company will not be high.

To develop your oratorical abilities and public speaking skills, there are such events as a Dialogue Club. After all, there is really power in the Word!

The jury heard eight reports. Among the speakers were 4th year students of the specialty «Customs» of our university:

Akulenko Ksenia Sergeevna (topic of the report «The importance of business etiquette of communication for customs officers»);

Voichenko Marina Olegovna (topic of the report «On the negative impact of the Internet on literacy»);

Smolyakova Ekaterina Yurievna (topic of the report «Education for life or education through life?»).

After the performance, each participant answered the questions of the jury and the participants of the Dialogue Club.

The jury experts evaluated the performances according to a number of criteria: completeness of the topic disclosure, literacy and expressiveness of speech, consistency and originality of the presentation of the material, the presence of contact with the audience, achievement of the purpose of the speech.

Summing up the results of the Dialogue Club, the jury was unanimous: all participants performed well, and it is difficult to single out the best reports. Nevertheless, the reports of Ekaterina Smolyakova (BSUT) and Ekaterina Elyutina (OrIR – a branch of SamSUR) are recognized as one of the best.

Each participant of the Dialogue Club received letters of thanks on behalf of the director of the OrIR – a branch of SamSUR Anatoly Nikolaevich Popov.

The head of the Dialogue Club «The Power of Words», Deputy Director of the OrIR – a branch of SamSUR for Science and Innovation Olga Yuryevna Malakhova expressed sincere gratitude to BSUT for participating in the event and invited to further meetings of the Dialogue Club.
